I began working last Thursday, in a brand new bagel store called Long Island Bagel Cafe. It is there first store in Suffolk. They have five other locations in Nassau, and have been in business since 1986. I had delivered newspapers to some of the other locations when I worked for Newsday. After working in the trucking business for the last 25 years I decided I know longer wanted to work outdoors and be driving a truck all day.
The store is located in Nesconset and is only a 15 minute ride. What is so exciting to me is everything is brand new and nice and clean.
The last time I worked in a deli was 1985 and boy have things changed. All the different selections is amazing. They make all types of cream cheese, chicken and tuna salads. They actually have taco tuna and and olive cream cheese. Suzanne might like the olive cream cheese. Stephanie likes the Buffalo chicken salad.
I never had lox which I learned is Nova Scotia salmon. Joe the owner was showing me how to cut the fish. I tasted it and it was delicious.
I came home the first day and Susan and Stephanie were home. I could hardly contain myself and spent almost and hour just telling them all that happened. After 15 minutes they both told me to take Xanax to calm down. I can't believe how much I missed the deli atmosphere. Now don't get me wrong, this isn't going to be a career. I want to work but lets be real, I'm only going to work part time. 4 days a week, 6 to 8 hrs. a day.
So if your in the area, stop in and I'll make you lox and cream cheese on a Black Russian bagel, which is pumpernickel with raisins.
